Dark Blue Tutus

I’ve had a lot of requests this year for steely blue and dark blue velvet tutus. They have all been very dramatic designs for older dancers.

This dark blue was teamed with gold venise lace and a champagne skirt. The floating jewels on the skirt add extra drama.

I also added a deep decorated low back

I used sapphire and bronze stones throughout and added a layer of soft gold sparkle tulle to the top of the skirt.

Adding silver trim gives quite a different feel to the same coloured velvet.

This is a beautiful lace that can be used in many ways. Blue stones are offset with crystal AB stones that give a lovely pink cast for a bit of contrast.

Silver venise lace has been used here for a slightly heavier style of decoration than the silver and blue tutu above. A lace overskirt adds a romantic touch. The arm drapes are finished with the same lace as the petals on the plate.

Predominantly blue stones are used here.

IsabelFrances (3)

Light gold baroque style trim is used here in conjunction with gold glitter appliques.

The two trims work quite nicely together even though they are so different.

Another combination of corded appliques and glitter sequin appliques. The two work very well together and are brought into unison with the added rhinestones.

I really love this combination and look forward to using these trims together again.

Hawke (6)

I’ve done quite a few of these spikey plates this year. I really like the look.

Hawke (8)

The plate is made up of 2 very different laces but the overall effect is wonderfully rich.

A layer of sparkle tulle completes the skirt and a lovely decorated low back adds a bit of pizazz.

Skazlic (5)

This tutu uses the same trim as the tutu above but some clever rearranging by my client brought forth this rather lovely plate design.

Skazlic (4)

The gold foiled soft tulle overlay give a perfect delicate touch to the plate.

Skazlic (6)

The decorated low back is lovely.

Lily (3)

This versatile lace can be used so many ways. Here is the Silver and white version on a deep navy tutu with a sparkly blue and black skirt.

Lily (4)

Blue navettes and crystal AB rhinestones add to the sparkle.

Lily (6)

The dancer wearing this tutu is very slender so we worked on getting this heavy trim as narrow as possible. Narrow bodice design for the slender dancer.

RTW Royal Blue (1)

I’ve had this French lace for years and I could never manage to have client’s see its potential so I made up this RTW. It sold within an hour!

RTW Royal Blue (4)

I added a few crystal AB and hyacinth rhinestones to fill out the filigree parts of the lace.

RTW Royal Blue (2)

Floating rhinestones and enhanced glitter tulle gave this tutu the finishing touches.

A lovely ombre finish to the skirt adds a special touch

Puffs with venise lace complete the picture.

And the skirt grades down to a blue underskirt.

Pale Blue Tutus

Pale blue tutus are beautifully ethereal. Here are a few bluebirds and other pale blue tutus I’ve made this year.

This pretty tutu teamed pale blue, ivory and light gold. The top layer of the skirt is fine gold sparkle tulle.

This versatile trim makes a lovely plate

Here, light blue is teamed with silver and blue rhinestones.

And in this one, cornflower blue lycra is embellished with deeper cornflower French lace.

The skirt has been lightly airbrushed to make the lace float

This little bluebird flew off to the USA for a competition early in the new year.

I really love doing these floating points on the skirts.

The costume was complemented with some little feathery arm frills.

Webb (3)

This pretty little tutu was made up as a blue version of her first tutu that was pink. This tutu is as cute as the little dancer who wears it.

The costume has delicate little French lace drapes, mounted in fine glitter tulle.

Pale blue works equally well with gold as it does with silver

Pale blue works equally well with gold as it does with silver. Here it is embellished with metallic appliques on net plates.

And again, silver and gold are equally at home against pale blue.

Lovely pale blue is so versatile.

A selection of Blue Tutus

Blue is a very popular colour for tutus from pale blue, through mid blue, royal blue and dark steely blue. Here is a selection of mid blue tutus.

Hanrahan (2)

The air-brushed skirt adds a delicate lightness to the costume.

Hanrahan (3)The gold trim on the plate floats over the airbrushed skirt.

Using the same trim, a different feel is giving by using a light gold lace over the skirt.

Skazlic (5)

These appliques can be aligned in many different ways. This client was after a little swoop in the front but not too rounded.Skazlic (6)

I repeated the swoop at the back as well. Here you can see the lovely lines of Danielle Legge’s beautiful Aurora pattern.

Skazlic (2)

This royal blue tutu is a copy of a purple tutu I made for this dancer last year. She loved it so much she wanted a reprise. We chose different trim and tweaked a couple of other things but it still had the essence of the previous tutu.

Bolam Blue (4)

This tutu has a lovely deep back that is kept secure with nude mesh

Corded lace embellished with rhinestones sits just under the embroidered appliques to give a textural depth to the bodice.

Sparkle tulle in layer 2 gives an overall ballet glimmer.

RINDO (2)

I air-brushed the top layer of glitter net to match the plate and grade down to lilac.

You can see the beautiful hydrangea colours coming through the skirt.

Blue, purple and amethyst stones highlight the silver venise lace

Blue and Gold Championship Tutu

One of my clients asked me to make a championship tutu for her daughter with just a few colours a no-go and the brief … lovely, layered, textured and romantic.

Here’s my interpretation of her brief …

bodice CU

Bodice decoration

I used a combination of 2 different laces on the bodice and a range of blue rhinestones.

back

The main applique was white with light gold cording. To bring a textural effect I used bright gold venise lace and some topaz horse-eye navettes.

I used the same applique on the plate with a few touches of venise lace. Between each of these appliques I placed a diamond of blue net edged with soft gold lace with a venise lace applique in the centre.

You can see the effect of the three different gold colours is quite loves and provides depth to the design. Here is picture of both parts of the late together.

I was very happy with the design and the overall effect. I think It has attracted the most likes of any of my posts on FB.

Blue Roses

Here is a pretty little tutu in a soft delicate blue for a young dancer with just a few blue roses for a very soft romantic look.

bodice detail

Silver venise lace and blue rhinestones

The plate was just little bit fancy with a second tier and a few more roses and some tiny blue dianthus flowers. The net petals were made of slightly darker net than the skirt to give them just a little bit of definition. The AB crystals flashed a little pink for some colour depth.

The tutu was made for a young girl with a lovely warm complexion and the pale colours looked so good on her. I also loved the tiny patches of sage green from the leaves on the ribbon flowers.

Sixteen petalled plate with flowers and rhinestones

And I made a sweet little tiara to match, with rhinestones and flowers. I’ve added crinoline to the frame of the tiara to make it easier to pin to the hair.

Royal Blue Velvet and Old Gold

I found a beautiful corded lace earlier this year and couldn’t wait to use it on a RTW tutu. The lace and the velvet worked beautifully together and instead of the traditional white skirt I opted for powder blue. It was such a successful combination the tutu sold in a few hours.

plate detail

corded lace and AB crystals

The lace was a lovely warm old gold with pretty champagne embroidery. I loaded it up with lots of blue stones and a few crystal AB rhinestones for little flashes of pink.

There was plenty of scope with this trim for embellishment.
